Her brother died in early February
For decades, detectives will puzzle over what happened that day in the small town of Flossenbürg in the Upper Palatinate.
A tireless search
They will question witnesses, follow their instructions and discard traces. They will file the case and bring it back. The murder – because the investigators still assume that the girl was killed – remains unsolved. Until 42 years later a crucial clue may come in: At the moment, investigators are digging near the village. You suspect the body of Monika Frischholz there. So far they have discovered a VW Beetle buried there, which could be related to the crime.

When the seventh grader finished her homework on the afternoon of her disappearance in May 1976, she wanted to go out. “You mom, can I go for a little walk?”, She asks – this is how the program “Aktenzeichen XY … unsolved” will later reproduce with the help of the police. She had an appointment with friends – “Petra and Sigrid”. The parents have no objection. I just don’t want her to be home late. Shortly after 3 p.m., she leaves her parents’ house on Stieberweg in the direction of Floßer Straße. For the spring day, the girl with the black hair has put on a long-sleeved red vest with black horizontal stripes – underneath she wears an ocher-colored sweater with short sleeves with dark green trousers.
Track to the lemon-yellow Opel
In fact, Monika meets her friends. She tells them about her crush, an 18-year-old locksmith with whom she plans to meet later in the neighboring town. Apparently she asked another boy to convey a message to him. Later, however, it turns out that the young man knew nothing about it and would probably have had little interest. At this point, Monika had no inkling of this – and set off on foot. The friends saw her for the last time when she marched alone towards the end of the village at around 3:30 p.m.

For a long time, the police assume that the twelve-year-old will also arrive in the neighboring village. A pensioner believes she saw her there – and also a lemon-yellow car, possibly an Opel Kadett, the driver of which the girl apparently wants to successfully get into the car. The sign “LÜ” leads to Lüdenscheid or Lünen. Are there connections to similar cases in the Ruhr area? But Monika Frischholz’s whereabouts remain unclear. The case ends up in the files.
Head of Investigation: “Monika was a happy child”
Until the Weiden criminal investigation department went public with a bang: The newly founded “Investigation Group Froschau” is reopening the case, offering a reward of 10,000 euros. Five detectives reassess the evidence, draw on new scientific knowledge and examine the case as a suspected murder. The reason for the advance is an apparently specific new witness reference.
“Murder never expires. We will continue to do everything we can to clear up the case after all,” says Chief Detective Armin Bock, the head of the investigation team. “Monika was a happy child. Even after 42 years, relatives and society deserve the truth to come to light.” Within a few weeks, 35 further reports were received. To date, many of the Witnesses appear to have been unaware of the value of their information. But the details are small pieces of the puzzle to put together a large picture.

One of the statements, for example, exposes the trace of the lemon yellow Opel Kadett as a misunderstanding. Investigators track down a witness from the neighboring village who looked like Monika at the time.science topics for argumentative essay It was probably she who got into the suspicious vehicle. Probably Monika Frischholz never arrived in the neighboring town. The investigators assume today: The twelve-year-old met her murderer in the immediate vicinity of her home town. She was last seen after the 50 new witness interviews, apparently at the former stone fountain shortly before the junction to Waldkirch. The investigators refute rumors that the body was deposited in an old quarry as “obviously wrong”.
For this, the officers find another possible location as a storage location for the corpse: On a forest land south of Waldkirch, they begin excavation work on Monday, more than 42 years after Monika’s disappearance. Specialists in forensic evidence and forensic medicine are called in. “Our investigations have now taken us so far that we want to investigate this possible storage location of Monika more closely. We do not yet know what to expect and whether we will ultimately find her here,” says investigator Bock at the start of the search in the morning – but a little later one find already gives hope.
The buried wreck at the edge of the forest
Because at noon, the 20 police officers hit parts of a vehicle. In the end they use wheelbarrows, shovels and hands to uncover a complete wrecked car: it is apparently a VW Beetle. Trees are felled to dig the find out of the pit. The officials also make other “findings” that could be related to the crime, as it calls a press release. The investigators do not want to comment on this yet. The wreck does not necessarily have to be connected to the murder, emphasizes a police spokesman.
The excavation work will continue on Tuesday. Perhaps investigators are hoping to find the Swiss Roamer Anfibio watch that Monika Frischholz was carrying when she disappeared? In any case, possible witnesses with further information are still called upon to share their information with the police.

Flossenbürg’s mayor Thomas Meiler hopes that the Monika Frischholz case will be resolved after almost 43 years. Flossenbürg is a contemplative place where practically everyone knows everyone. The discussions about the case never ended in the place, “rumors came and went”. That was depressing. “Now people see light on the horizon and hope to be able to conclude with the topic.” Monika’s family, on the other hand, her parents, her two siblings, the latest developments can no longer be a consolation. Her brother died in early February. He was her last living relative.

At Frankfurt Airport, customs have struck against counterfeiters of branded clothing. The officers found hundreds of counterfeit items with high sales values.
Customs has seized more than 860 fake tracksuits, sweaters, jeans and T-shirts at Frankfurt Airport. As the main customs office announced on Friday, the original items of clothing had a value of 167,000 euros. Officials found the clothes with illegally used brand logos in a freight shipment from Turkey in late September.
The 29 boxes were to be forwarded to a company from Ukraine. A total of 18 brands have been counterfeited by clothing manufacturers, said the customs office. Now the plagiarism will be destroyed. “According to international estimates, seven to ten percent of world trade is already counterfeits. The economic damage is estimated at 200 to 300 billion euros per year worldwide,” said a spokeswoman for the main customs office in Frankfurt.
After the death of a 24-year-old from knife wounds, the Frankfurt District Court issued an arrest warrant for her 43-year-old ex-boyfriend on Saturday. This was confirmed by a police spokeswoman in the morning.

According to the police, the Swede had stabbed the German woman several times with a kitchen knife in the parking lot of a supermarket in Frankfurt and fatally injured her. The two are said to have been a couple earlier, but ended their relationship. The attacker apparently inflicted injuries to himself with a knife after the fatal attack and was hospitalized.
The murder weapon was apparently bought shortly before
Witnesses had informed the police about the attack. Accordingly, the woman tried to flee, but collapsed in the parking lot. She died a short time later in the hospital.

Frankfurt / Main (dpa / tmn) – In winter, the windows should be opened briefly several times a day to air and not just tilted. If the latter is too short, it does not extract enough humidity from the room. This can lead to mold growth.

If, on the other hand, you have tilted the windows for hours, the rooms and their walls cool down considerably. You also ventilate away the expensive heating. The Windows + Façade Association therefore advises: If possible, open the windows wide on opposite sides and ventilate them vigorously for a few minutes. Then close the window completely.
Five minutes is enough in case of frost
If it is frosty and cold outside, the intermittent ventilation may be shorter. The association specifically recommends a ventilation time of five minutes at sub-zero temperatures. At zero to plus ten degrees it should be 10 minutes per ventilation process, at over ten degrees 15 minutes.
How often you should ventilate per day depends on many individual factors. A measuring device for humidity, the hygrometer, can give an indication: If it shows a value of more than 60 percent humidity, you should open the window. Hygrometers are available in hardware stores for a few euros.
The heating in the respective room should be turned down during ventilation. Some modern thermostats can do this themselves.
Berlin (dpa / tmn) – A cold room does not heat up faster because the mechanical thermostats on the radiators are fully turned on. Instead, the heating is then only longer, because a higher room temperature is targeted by turning up the speed.

The result: heating costs rise. The non-profit consulting company co2online points this out.
If you want a room temperature of around 20 degrees, you should choose level three on mechanical thermostats, as recommended by the experts. Level four can be around 24 degrees. Electronic and smart thermostats have a digital display.
