Experienced RV Technicians Who Know How to Find the Problem

When an RV has a problem, finding the cause is often just as important as making the repair. At Almaden RV Service & Repairs, our experienced RV technicians diagnose and repair a wide range of RV systems, from electrical, appliances, air conditioning and plumbing to chassis, generators, solar and other coach systems. With more than 40 years of experience working on RVs, we’ve learned that good repairs start with understanding the problem—not just treating the symptom.

What Does an RV Technician Do?

An RV technician works on the many different systems that make an RV function as a home, vehicle, and living space. Unlike an automobile, an RV combines automotive systems with electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, appliances, generators, batteries, solar systems, and the coach itself.

Some RV problems are straightforward, while others require careful troubleshooting to find the underlying cause. Our technicians take the time to diagnose the problem, determine what is actually needed, and explain the repair before the work begins.

RV Systems We Diagnose and Repair

Our technicians work on a wide range of RV systems, including:

Electrical & Battery Systems

RV electrical problems can be difficult to diagnose because several systems may be involved. We troubleshoot 12-volt DC and 120-volt AC systems, batteries, converters, inverters, wiring, electrical components, and other RV electrical problems.

RV Appliances

Refrigerators, water heaters, furnaces, ranges, microwaves, and other appliances are an important part of the RV. We diagnose appliance problems and determine whether a repair, replacement, or other solution is appropriate.

Heating & Air Conditioning

Keeping an RV comfortable requires properly functioning heating and cooling systems. Our technicians diagnose problems with RV air conditioners, furnaces, thermostats, and related components.

Plumbing & Water Systems

Leaks and plumbing problems can cause much more damage than what is immediately visible. We diagnose water-system problems and inspect for signs of leaks, water intrusion, and related damage.

Generators & Power Systems

RV generators and electrical power systems require proper diagnosis when they aren’t starting, producing power, or operating correctly. We can troubleshoot generators and related components as part of an overall RV electrical system.

Solar & Inverter Systems

Today’s RVs increasingly rely on solar panels, battery banks, inverters, and other power-management equipment. Our technicians can diagnose and service many of these systems and help determine what is needed when a system isn’t performing properly.

Chassis & Running Gear

An RV may be a home on wheels, but it still has to safely travel down the road. Depending on the type of RV, our technicians work on chassis, suspension, steering, brakes, running gear, and other mechanical components.

Coach Systems & Structural Problems

Some RV repairs involve more than a single component. Water intrusion, damaged walls, roof problems, structural damage, slide-outs, and other coach issues can require experience with how an RV is actually constructed.

RV Diagnostics: Finding the Cause, Not Just the Symptom

One of the most important parts of being an experienced RV technician is knowing how to troubleshoot a problem.

For example, a dead battery may not simply mean that the battery needs to be replaced. The problem could involve the converter, charger, inverter, wiring, parasitic draw, solar system, or another component.

The same is true for many RV problems. A leak may originate somewhere other than where the water appears. An appliance may be working properly while another component is causing the problem. An electrical failure can sometimes be the result of an issue several steps back in the system.

Good RV repair starts with finding the cause.

Experience Matters When Working on RVs

RV construction and technology have changed considerably over the years. We’ve worked on older RVs with relatively simple systems as well as newer coaches equipped with sophisticated electrical, electronic, solar, and comfort systems.

Our experience includes motorhomes, fifth wheels, travel trailers, and other recreational vehicles from many different manufacturers.

After more than 40 years in the RV repair business, we’ve seen a lot of different problems and we’ve learned that every RV and every repair can be a little different.

That’s why we approach each job individually rather than assuming every problem has the same solution.

When Should You Take Your RV to a Technician?

Some RV maintenance can easily be handled by an owner. Other problems are better left to an experienced technician, particularly when they involve:

  • Electrical problems or repeated circuit failures
  • Water leaks or unexplained moisture
  • Appliances that aren’t operating correctly
  • RV air-conditioning or heating problems
  • Generator or inverter problems
  • Battery or charging issues
  • Slide-out problems
  • Unusual noises, vibration, or handling problems
  • Suspension, brake, or chassis concerns
  • Water intrusion or structural damage
  • Problems that have been repaired before but keep coming back

If you aren’t sure what’s causing a problem, diagnosis is often the best place to start.
